Happy Birthday, Riesling. March 13th was the official birthday of Riesling, the date the grape variety was first mentioned in a written document back in 1435.
Excellent piece. As someone who is just discovering and exploring natural wine, I would be very interested in learning if there any producers worth looking into from Portugal? Keep up the great work.
Hi David, thanks so much for reading the newsletter and commenting! There are low intervention wine producers in Portugal such as Aphros and António Lopes Ribeiro, both biodynamic producers in Vinho Verdo. I also recently tried a nice white from Joao Tavares de Piña in Dão, and have heard good things about Tiago Teles in Bairrada. And if you’re in Toronto, there’s the LCBO destination store for wines from Portugal at 2151 St. Clair Ave. W.
We are currently in the process of moving from the UK to Portugal. After checking out your recommendations, it looks like Aphros is only a 15 minute drive from us.

I think this could be fate.
muito obrigado
Amazing! There seems to be a good natural wine bar scene in Lisbon (link to article below) and boa sorte com a mudança!
